Description of University

Zhengzhou University (ZZU) is composed of four campuses (main campus, southern campus, northern campus, eastern campus), and presently has 56,000 full-time undergraduates, 15,000 full-time postgraduates, and 1,600 international students from over 60 countries and regions. The long history of ZZU has cultivated a distinctive culture of its own. Influenced by the broad and profound culture of the Central Plains of China, people at ZZU have inherited and developed the quality of being generous, inclusive, energetic, and daring. Students at ZZU come from over 30 provinces and autonomous regions in mainland China, as well as over 60 overseas countries and regions in the world. These various cultures have harmoniously existed and been blended with one another at ZZU, generating a cultural atmosphere or communication and integration among regional and ethnical cultures. 

In the past 15 years, ZZU has witnessed steady development and laid a solid foundation for a comprehensive university. It has established 12 major disciplines: science, engineering, medicine, literature, history, philosophy, law, economics, management science, pedagogy, agriculture and arts. Efforts have been made to stick to open schooling, broad international exchange and the combination of industry, university and research institute. ZZU has also established intercollegiate cooperative relationships with more than 180 universities in over 40 countries and regions, including USA, UK, etc. Every year ZZU homes more than 1,000 overseas visitors and students, and simultaneously sends hundreds of teachers and students to visit and study abroad. 

Long-term Chinese Language Training Programs

(1). Program description
There are 6 training programs for learners with 6 different levels of Chinese language proficiency. These programs can satisfy diverse learning needs of learners at beginner, intermediate, or advanced stage. By participating in these programs, students could comprehensively improve their Chinese listening, reading and writing skills, and enrich their life in Chinese culture.
A. Beginning programs (Level 1 and 2)
 a. Level-1: suitable for Chinese beginner, or can simply communicate with limited Chinese words. Learn the basic Chinese pronunciation, characters, and vocabulary and sentence patterns. The new HSK Level 2 can be achieved.
 b. Level-2: suitable for the learners who already mastered 600-1000 commonly used Chinese words, or have completed approximately 200 hours of Chinese language study. Learn to use Chinese for daily communication and the new HSK level-3 can be achieved.

B. Intermediate programs (Level-3 and Level-4)
a. Level-3: Suitable for the learners who already mastered 1500-2000 commonly used Chinese words, or who completed level-2 courses. Learn and master some reading skills, oral presentation skills and understand the basic knowledge of Chinese culture. The new HSK level-4 can be achieved.
b. Level-4: Suitable for the learners who already mastered 2500-3000 commonly used Chinese words, or have completed level-3 courses. Learn to use Chinese to solve various problems in life or work, and to master some writing skills. The new HSK level-5 can be achieved.

C. Advanced programs (Level-5 and Level-6)
 a. Level-5: Suitable for the learners who already mastered 3500-4000 commonly used Chinese words, or have completed level-4 courses. Learn a lot of ChineseNote: Small class size,  and use the whole set of “Development of Chinese” (Beijing Language and Culture University Press) as teaching materials.)
(2) Location
On new Campus of Zhengzhou University in High-tech Zone, Zhengzhou City

(3) Semester Arrangement:
A. Spring Semester: March to June
B: Autumn Semester: September to December

(4) Lessons Arrangement
18 weeks every semester and 20 hours every week.
(5) Elective Courses
Calligraphy, martial arts, new HSK test counseling, Chinese social networking software, business Chinese, practical writing, Chinese arts, Mandarin pronunciation, audiovisual Chinese, Chinese proverb, singing to learn Chinese
(6) Special activities
A. Writing contest, singing competition, recitation competition and other kinds of Chinese competition.
B. Cultural experience activities with Henan features: tour to the Shaolin Temple, Henan Museum, Yellow River Park, Jiaozuo-the home of Taiji, the ancient capital of Luoyang, the ancient capital of Kaifeng, Chinese Character Museum in Anyang.

(7) Learning support
The University arranges “one to one” Chinese language tutorial for every overseas student. For each learner, there will be a Chinese on-campus student arranged to tutor them to learn Chinese language in their spare time.
(8) Fees
A. Tuition fee: RMB 7500 Yuan/semester, RMB15, 000 Yuan/year
B. Textbooks: RMB 100-300 Yuan/semester, RMB 200-500 Yuan/year

(9) Convenience of participation
Students can participant these programs at any time. They can choose their suitable class.
Fees for students less than one semester:  RMB 2000 Yuan/month.

10) How to apply
One can apply this program individually or in group at any time. No requirement for candidates’ Chinese language proficiency, healthy, non-criminal record, and of the age from 18 to 55. 
Applicants have three alternatives in applications:
A. Apply online
B. If there is admission agent in your area, you can apply through them.
C. If there is no agent in your area, you can directly contact the International Admission Office of Zhengzhou University.


-Tuition fee: 7500 RMB per semester ($1075 USD)
-Textbooks: 100-300 RMB per semester ($15-$45 USD)
-Housing: two types of room available: 15 RMB per day or 30 RMB per day (4 months = 1850 RMB/$270 USD or 3660 RMB/$530 USD)
-Cost of Living: 1200 RMB to 1800 RMB per month ($200 USD to $400 USD per month; 4 months = $800 USD to $1600 USD)
Total: $2160 USD to $3250 USD per semester (4 months)

Short Term Chinese Language Training Program

(1). Program description
The program takes use of the summer time to teach Chinese language as main part and also have some Chinese characteristic cultural experiences. It can provide quality educational opportunity for the people who want to understand Chinese culture and learn Chinese. 
(2) Location
New Campus of Zhengzhou University in High-tech Zone Zhengzhou  
(3) Time Arrangement:
From mid-July to early August every year (no more than three weeks)
Note: The specific time will be published by the University. 
(4) Hours Arrangement
The program lasts 1-3 weeks and 20 hours every week, so it has 20-60 hours in total. 
(5) Lessons Arrangement
Primary Chinese and Secondary Chinese Classes 
(6) Teaching Features
We use a modular teaching material to rapidly increase the listening and speaking skills in Chinese 
(7) Cultural Experiences
Two times every week, including the calligraphy classes, martial arts activities, Chinese arts experiences, Chinese food cooking, shopping and parties with Chinese students, visiting Chinese Families and touring Henan Museum, etc.  
(8) Class Size
This program will be offered only when the student number is more than 5. 
(9) Fees
RMB 1,000Yuan/week, RMB 2,000 Yuan/2 weeks, RMB 3,000Yuan/ 3 weeks,RMB 4,000Yuan/ 4 weeks
Note: the fees include application fee, tuition, textbooks, but not include the travel expense. The university will arrange the sightseeing to Zhengzhou, Kaifeng, Jiaozuo, or Anyang according to the students’ demands. 
(10) How to apply

One can apply individually or in a group.
