Program Description:

Where in the world do you want to go?

The Salukis Abroad Scholarships are intended to supplement your regular financial aid and personal resources for study abroad. These $500 minimum scholarships are available each term for undergraduates. Each SIU faculty-led Global Seminar has two scholarships assigned. In addition, applicants will automatically be considered for any other scholarships offered through Study Abroad Programs. These awards will vary from a minimum of $250 to a maximum depending on the program and term.

Application Term

Any program taking place after the end of the Fall semester is considered to be Spring semester for our application. This includes programs over the winter break or spring break. Any programs that take place after the end of the Spring semester, including intersession, are considered as summer session.

Eligibility

  • You must be an enrolled, degree-seeking student at Southern Illinois University at the time of study abroad.
  • You must be an undergraduate student.
  • You must be a US citizen, permanent resident or DACA recipient.
  • You must have applied for and been accepted for an approved study abroad program.
  • You must have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA for the SIU Global Seminars.
  • You must have a minimum 2.75 overall GPA for other programs.
  • Applicant must be eligible to receive financial aid including being enrolled full-time. This means at least 6 credit-hours in the summer and 12 for fall/spring.

Special Considerations

  • These awards may be granted after the start of the new fiscal year, July 1, but usually will be awarded in June. Spring awards will be awarded immediately after the award is finalized.
  • Awards will be made to the student’s Bursar account only.
  • Awards are determined based upon a combination of financial need, program cost and academic merit. Financial need is determined by the Financial Aid Office along with your application. This requires that you have a FAFSA on file.
